Amina Rogers: Doctor DJ

$250.00

Nana Achampong is a Ghanian-American DJ born and raised in the Bronx. An NYU graduate with a degree in Global Public Health & Sociology and plans for medical school, he believes that there is a place for music in healing. Rather than choosing between art and science, Nana uses his mixes as a place of repair and emerges into the NYC DJ scene to bridge a gap between the African Diaspora. This photo comes from a series of portraits that highlight Black men in hip-hop and their identities outside of the mainstream guise. While my work aims to help Black men reclaim their identities and images, I hope that hip-hop can be reclaimed from the mainstream as well.
